My creative interest began to grow in high school with drawing, painting and pottery classes. After graduating from high school, I discontinued artistic activities, but always continued to view the world from an artist’s perspective. We moved to Penticton in the mid 70’s and I spent many years as an educator and administrator.  Once retired I once again took up painting dabbling in water colors and acrylic and I painted under the mentorship of Summerland Artist Bruce Crawford. It is really through Bruce, my appetite for creativity grew again. I joined the Naramata Art Studio a few years ago and feel fortunate to be working with this talented, supportive group.   I am now pleased to be sharing my creations with this group in the beautiful Lang’s Winery facility.

Running, hiking and exploring the beautiful Okanagan Valley for over 40 years gives Katie inspiration for her “representational style” painting – rolling hill, flowing creeks, lakes, clay banks, log cabins, houses and trees. Thus this featured work is entitled “A Collapsed Cabin for All Seasons”.  The importance of this painting is the location – a remote hike on Apex Mountain – where unfortunately at this time there is a threatening wildfire in the are – that’s why preserving history through art is so important!
